Scrapbook Friday May 4, 2012 and a Tutorial from Erica

So much planned for this weekend!!!
Tomorrow's 100 Cricut cartridge blog hop! GREAT projects and we cannot wait to share them with you.
Today's projects were all about indulgence. Chocolate and Cocktails!

KathyJo used Don Juan and Lyrical Letters to create this coffee layout. Please visit her blog at http://skrappindiva.blogspot.com for details

Heather E. used Life is a Beach and Luau cartridges to created this intoxicated layout. To see her entire project please visit http://pinkpunkcosmo.blogspot.com

I answered a question that I saw on facebook today and decided to share it with you all.....

Someone asked about creating a shadow for an item. They wanted to know if they are cutting at 4" for they need to make the shadow larger. I would love to quickly explain this.... I will also tell you what real dial size is, in the process.
First real dial size, what is it and when to use it.
The Cricut is automatically set with real dial size OFF. What this means is that your Cricut will AUTOMATICALLY make your items proportional to your finished size image.
So if you are making Mickey Mouse, I always cut my characters at 4" otherwise the eyes and everything is WAY TOO SMALL. I cut them all at 4" because I will cut a full sheet of each piece. I then keep them in a baggie labeled. So the next time I want one of them, I already have many of the pieces needed. Instead of putting each color of paper each time, and cutting only one from it, then I end up with paper with missing pieces and then they get caught on each other in my scrap drawers.... so I just cut a full sheet of it and then throw the little bit of scraps away.

I used crazy colors for the tutorial I will refer to each layer by the color.

Here is the finished die cut....

Here are all of the individual colors. I have the size set to 4"
The cricut knows to make each item proportional to the finished 4" size. You dont have to do anything, it does it on it's own.

Now this is Real Dial Size ON.... instead of proportionally. The cuts each item at the REAL size.
This is helpful if you want a title or image to be large. In this example if I wanted the star at 4" it would do it. But if I wanted the words at 4" to use for a title or something, I would have to turn REAL DIAL SIZE ON. Then it will cut in the REAL size that I want. Each item here is 4" so you can see how different it is

Here is how i would cut the images out and use a full sheet of card stock and have some of the die cut ready for the next time I need it.

Do you have trouble with adhesive on the tiny little pieces that the cricut cuts??
Here is what I do.... I FLIP the image (s) cut it and while it is still on the cutting mat, I apply my adhesive with a tape runner. Then I remove the excess paper around the words then I just use my tweezers and pick up the small pieces already with adhesive on them.
Here is the images flipped

Here are the words with the shadow feature on the cartridge. But what if your cartridge does not have a shadow?

If it does not have a shadow feature...... here is what most people do.... They cut the words at 4" and then again at 4 1/4" but as you see below it doesn't work very well....

If it does not have a shadow and you don't want it to look weird.... Cut 2 of the image out at the SAME SIZE. Then the bottom of the two images, move slightly left or right and then slightly up or down. Depending on which direction you want the shadow to show.

I hope this helped someone. Have a wonderful weekend!
I hope you will hop with us tomorrow on our 100 Cricut cartridge blog hop!

Yesterday's winner is

Would You Ever Guess Wednesday November 23, 2011

Don't forget next Thursday begins our 25 projects A DAY!!! I am so excited. My Design Team, friends, family and local ladies are so amazing and are helping me get everything ready for the store's GRAND OPENING tomorrow and HUGE Black Friday sale that starts on THURSDAY! I figured everyone is starting Thursday.... why not join them! For me, I am Thankful to have Christmas right around the corner. So for me tomorrow is Merry Almost Christmas!
Also another exciting thing that is around the corner..... We will be exploring ONE cartridge each day of the week. What this means is on a Card Creating Tuesday... part of the design team will be making cards and the other part (myself included) will be showing you some great projects with a certain cartridge that day. This begins this Friday with Paper Lace 1 or 2, Saturday is Damask Decor and Sunday is Create a Critter, Monday is Sophisticated, Tuesday is Boys will Be Boys, Wednesday will be Digital Cartridges. Then Thursday December 1 We will be making Christmas projects for the kick off of the 25 projects a day in December! I am so excited for this!!!

Now onto today's Would You Ever Guess Wednesday projects.... Do you ever wonder why we call it Would you ever guess Wednesday? On these days we try to use a cake cartridge to make a paper craft or food from a regular cartridge, we might also use just the feature keys on the cartridge.

I have to share with you one more thing. This is just a fun thing we are doing within the Design Team. I bought a stack of paper and it was called Snacks by DCWV. I though the idea of food would be cute and practical. But the images are so large. Imagine a lime that is 12" big.... not really what I thought it was going to be. Last weekend we did a design team Ustream. Melissa was here to help me and we kept laughing about these papers. So we decided to send these out to do challenges amongst us. Then we decided to call it the box of doom. Then I had a great idea, when the design team signs up for a day and for whatever reason (sick, kids, family..etc) if they don't post, they get a paper from the BOX of DOOM. I even let them pick their own papers from the box.... One has threatened me to make something with the papers then send the project to me! So in a lighthearted mood, which is how the BOX of DOOM is intended..... I did not see one of the ladies emails last week.... so she asked me if I get a paper from the BOX of DOOM.... I think it is only fair for me to get one paper from the BOX of DOOM also.... so Jenny R>>>>>> I too will make a project from the BOX of DOOM! Thanks for taking it as it is a fun way to laugh about our mistakes :) So fair is fair ..... I am part of the team too....... Don't worry you won't be able to miss it when we create from the BOX of DOOM!!!!!

Tammy S used the Lyrical Letters cartridge.
Please visit her blog at http://thepurplemuse.blogspot.com/ to find out more on how she created this card.

Laura used "A Child's Year" to create this card...

Jen L used end cap feature from Mickey Font cartridge and Mickey and Friends Cartridge

Project Sunshine and Smiles
We are all working on the Project Sunshine and Smiles for St. Jude's Children Hospital. We are colleciting 5,000 cards for the kids there. I have created this project "Sunshine and Smiles" and basically I am goign to the hosptial to deliver the cards, but I am going to bring as much sunshine into that hospital as I can. I hope to see a ton of smiles from the kids getting these cards. If I dont see a smiel from the cards, then I will do everything that I can to put a smile on that child's face.
I am also trying to get John Rich a country music STAR, to join me on this project, and he just might bring a few of his celebrety friends to help! I will be collecting cards from now until the end of August. You can mail them to:
Erica's Craft Room
4364 LaBurnum Drive
Akron, Ohio 44319
If you have any questions about this please email me
EricaCraftRoom@aol.com and put Sunshine and Smiles as the subject of the email.
Here are a few more details about the project. You can make any type of card, using and crafting technique that you know, please write a simple message in the card to a child. Please do not remind the child of their illness, most are fighting childhood cancer. You may say get well soon, but DONT say, "I know how you feel and it is not fun...." please DONT say anything like that. But you can say "Get Well Soon" "I hope this puts a smiel on your face".... you get the idea.... you dont need to ask if soemthing is ok to write in it, as long as you do not remind the child of their illness, it is ok.
Frequently asked questions....

Can a child make a card for them?
YES YES YES!!!!
Does it have to be a certain size?
Any size!
Do I have to add envelope?
Nope, I am going to have these in a large (Clean) red wagon for the kids to pick thier own card
Can I put them in envelopes?
Yes
Do I have to use the Cricut to make these??
No, this is the ONLY project that you do not HAVE to use the cricut, but wouldn't it be great if you did :)
Can I make a birthday card?
Sure but I will leave those with the volenteers for the future to give to kids who are there for their birthday
Do I need to have a kids cartridge to do this?
No, you can use anything and make anything, even a card full of flowers. I am sure there will be one child who will love flowers, or bear, cars.... the sky is the limit!

I do hope i have answered all of your questions if not, please email me and I will send it back to you and add it to the post here so others will see the question and answer.

In the meantime I am doing a contest for this....
Each week post your cards on my facebook Cricut Craft Room
Each week i will put all of the name in a bowl and pick a winner. Every card that you submit get you ONE entry into the bowl...
Each week out of those who posted cards, I will pick one and give away the Cricut Circle Exclusive cartridge Cricut Everyday, the only with all of the cute Cricut Images on it! I love this one!
I have 4 of these cartridges to give away, one each week.
At the end of the 4 weeks, who ever submitted the MOST carts will win the NEW Cricut cartridge that will be released this Thursday from Cricut, I cannot tell you the name only that S.S. are the initials for it.
If you have already mailed cards to me, they will be added to the total of cards you are submitting. I do not have to have these cards in my hand this week. BUT you have to post the picture on my facebook for it to count. If you have a card decorating party with your friends or social group.... You can count all of those cards from you , as long as your friends will let you :)
